WESTBEACH 1ST ANNUAL CHINESE DOWNHILL NOW ONLINE (Posted Monday, March 10, 2008 by dannywheeler)

WESTBEACH 1ST ANNUAL CHINESE DOWNHILL NOW ONLINE
Footage of the 1st Annual Westbeach Chinese Downhill is now available at
westbeach.com/chinesedownhill, YouTube.com

“The only rules are, there are no rules,” said Westbeach GM Jon Cartwright of the 1st Annual
Westbeach Chinese Downhill on February 15, 2008. Approximately 40 riders gathered at the top of
Million Dollar Ridge, donned bandanas and whizzed down the mountain in a hell-bent effort to reach
the bottom—and the $500 winner-takes-all prize—first. In the end, it came down to a chugging contest,
with “Creekside King” Shin Campos narrowly beating out the legendary Kevin Sansalone, and two
relative unknowns for the 4-foot competition cheque.
The Chinese Downhill builds on the legacy of a nearly forgotten Whistler tradition, all part of
Westbeach’s plan to keep snowboarding community-oriented, and, well, rad. Stay tuned for more antics
in the near future. (See you at TWSSF….?)
The Chinese Downhill video is part of the AirTime series, released monthly via the Westbeach
newsletter and other sources. Westbeach would like to thank gnarcore.com and Lenny Rubenovitch of
underexposedmedia.com for their assistance with the event. To view previous AirTime videos, visit

Westbeach release (Posted Wednesday, April 30, 2003 by stu)

After the x box big day out we shot in Avoriaz with Nils Svensson, we had a wicked few days and hit the best park kicker of the year.
Then it was over to the Quik slopestyle pro, which was the coolest event. They were so relaxed about letting people ride and everyone had a wicked time. I made it through to the semi finals, which was cool considering the standard. I think I might have took it a bit too easy, but it was fun. It was cool to see Terje riding and I think Koski won.
I did an interview with eurosport which aired with riding footage from the quik comp and the big day out. I havn`t seen it but I heard it was cool.
Then I went on a dog sledding trip in Canada with Marc Andre Tarte, Gabe Autier. We didnt find anything to ride and I managed to fall out of the sled and get dragged around by huskies. We then had some good design meetings with Westbeach before taking an inebriated Limo ride to Whistler, where it rained for a week and we got thrown out of most of the bars.
I am back in mammoth and trying to get shots for the Gatherings new movie
Gong Show and for my Method mag profile, which is coming along nicely.
Thats about it if you`re still awake, remember a Guiness a day keeps the doctor away. Cheers Danny

For anyone who wants to know...

I won the X Box big day out in Val D'isere. The event turned out to be sick, X box had huge trucks and stuff there and in the evening 10 000 people tuned out to watch the atmosphere was amazing, I won the snowboarding followed by a french rider and a finnish rider. The jump was hard to ride but it turned out to be fun.Drew Stevenson did a great job with the riders and getting them to put on a good show with a quikfire round. I won 4000 euros which I put towardws a car, I am hoping to pass my test at the end of the season. Before that i have been in mammoth filming park stuff for my part in method mag, I shot a day with scalp and a day with Mcphail before taking a few days off. I plan to do Quik slopestyle and film more for Method before going on a treetop trip in whistler, a design meeting with westbeach and then a team week for westbeach in Whistler filming for Method Mag again. Finishing up in Mammoth before going to Iceland for the westbeach Camp. Well I have a few days left playing X box before I go back to France.
Cheers Danny

Freestyle Ch (Posted Wednesday, September 26, 2001 by dannywheeler)

I just got back from the freestyle CH contest. It was a lot of fun.
Nicholas Muller won with Crawford second and Heike Sorsa third. I made the final too, riding at night was wicked, thousands of people watching and so many stoked kids. I`ve never given so many high fives!
Unfortunatly my binding snapped on my last jump (frontside seven melon) but I was stoked to make the final. Michi albin was my favourite rider(switch bakside seven upside down). Bye

Snowboarding already (Posted Monday, September 17, 2001 by dannywheeler)

I thought I`d tell you that I`m going to an in the city comp in Zurich. The rider list is amazing, gigi, gruber, de marchi, albin, blah blah, anyway I`m looking forward to riding again. We are going to diablerets in October for real snowboarding, but all these in the city things should be a laugh. looking forward to filming this winter in Mamouth, but it`s still a long way off.

Video section... (Posted Tuesday, July 17, 2001 by dannywheeler)

I have been snowboarding all summer, I filmed a bit with Tory Piro for his
new movie "Empire". Since then I have been in Hintertux filming with the
crew from "Desired effect", we have some good stuff but I need one more good
day before I can leave for Deux Alps. I've seen some of the stunts and skits
and its going to be mental. I went to Munich yesterday to shoot some
portraits with Hansi from "Pleasure" (German equivelant to Whitelines).
I'm looking forward to relaxing in Deux Alpes.
