Photographer Questionnaire
How did you get into photography?
I just took a lot of photos while travelling, oh and while rabble rousing on demos in London during the 'Thatcher years'.
How did you get your first break in photography?
I was already doing bits and bobs for SUK and then I nipped off to South America for a year and came back with a couple of stories and the shots to go with them. I've got to say that the photography has come on a lot since then! ands I owe a lot to Eddie Spearing for putting up with me. I then seasoned in Chamonix sharing a house with Johny Barr and James Stentiford. That set me up well, thanks to their patience.
How long have you been shooting?
A long time and since 1997 seriously (or is that professionally?).
What came first - the sport or the photography?
Sport, which helped.
If you could never shoot another photo or never snowboard/ski/skate again, which would you choose?
I guess I'd become a knitting consultant then, but one who snowboards.
What films do you use?
Fuji Provia 100F (the king of film) and Velvia. Assorted B&W when I want to get arty and all the other photographers have gone inside for a mug of cocoa because it's too stormy for them.
Ever use digital?
Not yet, but I'm about to sell my soul.
What was the best piece of advice anybody ever gave you about photography?
Put some film in.
What's in your camera bag?
Heavy stuff which means it's expensive.
What else do you do apart from photography?
Watch a lot ofg films an dont read enough books. I go mountain biking and ride up big hills to keep from getting the kind of belly that most people my age seem to acquire.
