It's all about Hamish Duncan at the moment!! This guy is tearing up
the U.K scene and is rightly getting the coverage he deserves. I have
known Hamish for years now and he is the soundest geeza you are ever
likely to meet. As i'm sure a lot of you all ready know that he has
some serious skills on a snowboard but it does'nt just stop there, he
is a very keen skateboarder as well (is there anything this lad can't
do??). Everything he does he goes full on into and makes sure he pays
attention to every detail. If you want some tips on whats the latest
snow trends then speak to him i don't know where he gets his info but
he allways beats me with the new dope steez. Boarding aside Hamish is
well into his drum and bass and mixing and suprise suprise he is good
at that aswell. To sum him up he is a young ripper who is great fun
to hang out with and if there is a session going down he is always
there giving it his all. Respect my brother keep the Hertfordshire
flag flying high in the sky where it should rightfully be.

Snowboarder Questionnaire

How old where you when you first began riding?

I was about fifteen maybe fifteen and a half.

What/Who got you into it?

Me and a few friends had been skating for a few years by that time and where all really into it. One of my friends, Mat had been away a few times and was always really stoked when he got back. He asked me if I wanted to try it at the local dryslope and I said'yeh'. Hit the dryslope for a few lessons and I couldn't get enough.

What sort of board do you ride?

Well I've got two boards, one for rails and one for snow. The rail board is the new Ride Kink with the denim top sheet and the snow board is a JJ Thomas 57 which is the same as the Exile but a pro model with a different graphic. Both super sick for what they do.

What length board do you ride?

Well the Kink is a 56 but I'm just about to get a 52 or something of that size. Same board but for handrails its way better. The JJ's a 57 which is perfect for all-round for me.

Do you ride Regular or Goofy?

I ride regular.

Stance width?

22inches.

Stance angles (front and back)?

+18 on the front and -9 on the back.

Favourite resort?

Tignes for the all-round park/powder/party thing. Chamonix for kickers and freeride dawgin!

How many seasons have you done?

Three but the second one doesn't count cause I only rode about a month because of the shit snow.

Where and when did you do your seasons?

Well my first season was in Breckenridge with Warwood and the Eldridges filming the Sequel. Danny was there for the first month that I was there and it was amazing to ride a good park with such good riders. Then the next year I went to Chamonix and it was good but because of the snow I didn't ride half as much as I wanted to and therefore fell into the going out season which wasn't good for me or my money. That season I did go to the Czech Republik, Slovakia and Poland all in a week though and that was wicked. This year I've had the best season so far. I travelled a lot, I got to go to New York and Vermont for a trip, I did some of the big European Competitions, I hit all the best European resorts, hung out with some wicked people, did more photos than ever before, I filmed more than I have ever before and I rode better than I would have ever expected.

What was your favourite trip and why?

Well it was definetely the trip to NY and Vermont for Whitelines. We had so much fun and we all got on so well. I've never laughed so much in my life, I swear it was so good. The riding was really good aswell with good parks and a wicked atmosphere. To finish off the trip we watched the US Open Slopestyle and then headed back to NY for St Patricks Day, which was mayhem. That stories out next season so look out for it.

What do you love about snowboarding?

Well the thing is there's so many things to love about it, the people that surround it, the energy, the sport, the parties, the idiots, the legends all that shit. It's all good.

What's your goal within snowboarding?

I don't really have one, see what happens, do aswell as I can that sort of thing. Maybe make a bit of cash here and there. No, my goal is to support my sponsors and represent them the best that I can now. I'm not just snowboarding for myself anymore its for a company aswell and I want to make them happy and in turn they'll help me to snowboard more.

What aspect of snowboarding gives you the most satisfaction (powder, kickers, halfpipe, competitions, big air, cliff drops, etc.)?

Probably hitting the piste up with a good crew of piste bashers. The DRP are good for that. Hittin rails with McMorris, that guy's good at rails! Riding piste with Gend, anything's fun when your riding.

What style of snowboarding best describes your riding (include a couple if you want)?

I don't understand the question sorry.

What's your favourite trick?

Frontside sevens and backside lipslides.

What's your scariest snowboarding moment?

I did a ledge in Chamonix that had a pretty reasonable drop to concrete on the other side. I clipped on the way up and fell onto the ledge, I thought I was going to fall and I thought I was going to die that sort of thing. I was nowhere near but your brain does funny things to you.

What are your top safety tips when riding?

Fuck that, go all out, RAMPAGE!!!

What advice have you got?

None, I need some myself.

Where would you like to see yourself in the future?

Fuck off big house, six cars, a pool, parties every weekend with everyone I know, loads of fit girls and free booze.

Realistically, what will you be doing in the future?

Trying to get to the situation above.

Who are your idols?

My Mum and Dad, my school friends, Duncan, the DRP-especially Verity, he inspires me to not take everything so seriously. All the Ride crew, Wescott. Plus people I don't know its probably Joni Malmi and Arto Saari as I like to watch them do there thing.

What music are you into?

Well at the moment I'm into The Cult, The White Stripes and The Strokes but I have a passion for Drum and Bass and a real liking for Hip Hop and all kinds of Rock and Pop, Madonna, Dire Straits, The Stones, New Order, a bit of classical, anything really. I hate Trance basically.

What's your favourite book?

I don't read much but at the moment I'm reading Michael Moore-Downsize This, he's really funny and good at writing.

What's your favourite film?

Such a difficult one but it has to be the French Connection with Gene Hackman and the guy out of Jaws.

What's your favourite quote?

"May 10th, thank god for the rain which has helped wash away the garbage and the trash off the sidewalks. I'm working long hours now, six days a week, sometimes seven days a week. Its a long hustle but it keeps me real busy. I can take in three fifty a week sometimes even more when I do it off the meter. All the animals come out at night. Buggers, Queens, Fairies, Doppers, Junkies. Sick, venal, someday a real rain will come and wash this scum off the streets." Robert DeNiro-Taxi Driver

Best cocktail, shot or drink?

White Russian for cocktail, B52 for shot.

What's your most prized possession?

My laptop.

Thanks to:

Mum, Dad, my sisters Lucy and Alice. My school friends, Mat, Adam, Paul and Alex. Duncan for inspiring me to be better and with more style. Billabong for taking my shit, Ride for hooking me up, Electric for being core. McNab for giving me a job every summer even though I don't work hard. Tosh for being my inspiration in Graphic Design and all the people I know for being leg ends.
