Snowboarder Questionnaire

How old where you when you first began riding?

I think I was the tender age of 17

What/Who got you into it?

The fact that it looked like it was possible to do things that I'd never do on a skateboard unless I became Danny Way for the day. Having said that, Danny Way can do things on a skateboard that I'll never be able to do on a snowboard...

What sort of board do you ride?

Ones that don't throw me on my head because, being a desk jockey nowadays, it's all about making things easy on my body.

What length board do you ride?

Anything from a 159 to 165 depending on what the conditions are like and what ones come through the metaphoriacal letterbox.

Do you ride Regular or Goofy?

Goofy. And did you know that it's called Goofy cos Goofy the cartoon character skateboarded with his right foot forward? Or maybe I made that up...

Stance width?

Generally as wide as they'll go.

Stance angles (front and back)?

+21, -6 unless it's pow pow

Favourite resort?

Chamonix was until I discovered that there were all these other nice places that you can get freshies more than an hour after the lifts open.

How many seasons have you done?

Four or five I think.

Where and when did you do your seasons?

Chamonix from the winter of the avalanche to a couple of years ago

What was your favourite trip and why?

Probably to Trysil, Norway for the Arctic Challenge 2003. Me, Ian Sansom and N8 drinking overpriced booze, hitching skidoo rides and eating in traditional Norwegian teepees (Lavo?). Either that or to Tignes for a meeting about the SUK Boardtest in March when I didn't expect to ride but Tom Willmott took me for a run off the Grand Motte resulting in a 600 vertical metre run with rad snow. Epic. Thanks Tom.

What do you love about snowboarding?

Face shots and whooping at your fellow snowboarders, whether you know them or not.

What's your goal within snowboarding?

To go snowboarding more.

What aspect of snowboarding gives you the most satisfaction (powder, kickers, halfpipe, competitions, big air, cliff drops, etc.)?

Speed, powder and Methods.

What style of snowboarding best describes your riding (include a couple if you want)?

If I'm honest, I think probably 'Bit Shit' style would describe me pretty well.

What's your favourite trick?

Getting someone to hold two Kings in their hand, and after a bit of magic they have two Aces there. It's great but only really works if they're drunk. I'm working on it though...

What's your scariest snowboarding moment?

Seeing a crack in the snow race past me and then the face began to slide. I didn't know how deep it was (fortunately very shallow) and I pooped myself but managed to ride out and away safe. Either that or any time riding on glacier crossing snowbridges.

What are your top safety tips when riding?

Know your kit, know how to use it, know your limits and keep your eyes open when riding.

What advice have you got?

Never say: 'Last run'.

Skateboarding, surfing, music, films, books, footy and good pubs with good beer.

In a nice house by the sea, or at the foot of snow capped mountains.

Scratching my arse and fine tuning my beer gut.

I don't think I idolise anybody.
